Mechanical and Microstructural Response of Aluminum Composites Reinforced with Ceramic Micro-Particles

Aluminum matrix composites have recently taken an important role in advanced applications because they a good combination of physical and chemical properties. For this reason, work, aluminum composites, with additions ceramic particles (mullite or tungsten carbide), were manufactured order to determine the effect those on mechanical properties microstructure aluminum. The manufacture was carried out by means powder metallurgy. We studied 0.5 1 vol.% respective ceramic. Composites sintered at 580 601 °C, which corresponds 88 91% melting point aluminum, respectively. Observations SEM, together EDX analysis, confirm that mullite are located intragranular transgranular positions matrix, while carbide found mostly areas matrix. From analysis ceramics, it use mullite, there greater improvements hardness elastic modulus composite.
